Cultivation method:
Sow Impatiens 'Whitepearl' indoors 6 to 7 weeks before the last frost , maintaining a temperature of around 24°C (75°F ). The seeds do not need to be covered ; if desired, add a very thin layer of vermiculite to retain moisture. Light is not necessary for germination. Use a well-draining, porous seed-starting mix , and keep the substrate moist but not waterlogged.
Transplant into the garden or into containers once the risk of frost has passed. Prepare the soil by loosening it to a depth of about 30 cm (12 inches) , then enrich it with compost. Carefully place the seedlings in the pot, gently loosening any compacted roots. Adding organic bone meal or a soil activator at the time of transplanting can encourage root development. Water regularly every 2 to 3 days until well established.
Outdoors, choose a cool, moist and rich soil , with constant watering to support continuous flowering.
Flowering and maintenance:
No pinching is necessary. Occasionally removing faded flowers will help maintain a neat appearance. 'Whitepearl' retains dense, even blooms throughout the season, even in sunny conditions.
