Romaine lettuce on ribbon
description
Romaine lettuce on a ribbon (Lactuca sativa), offered by the seed company WH Perron
Ribbon romaine lettuce is a classic variety prized for its long, crisp, and flavorful leaves , which form a firm, elongated head . Its bright green foliage offers a fresh texture and balanced flavor, ideal for Caesar salads and summer dishes. Known for its durability, it is best eaten fresh, straight from the harvest.
Pre-sown seed tape greatly simplifies planting: the seeds are arranged at the perfect density , ensuring uniform germination without thinning. This practical method is suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners and promotes clean and consistent cultivation. Careful harvesting sometimes allows for a second flush of leaves at the end of the season.

This variety prefers rich, well-drained soil , full sun , and consistent moisture . Adding compost, well-rotted manure, or a nitrogen-rich fertilizer promotes vigorous growth. Mulching is recommended to retain moisture and suppress weeds. For the main harvest, space rows 40 to 45 cm apart.
Harvest :
Harvest lettuce when it is firm , ideally early in the morning . For a whole head, cut with a knife just above the soil ; the remaining base may sometimes produce a new shoot in late summer. Lettuce is eaten fresh and will keep for about a week in the refrigerator in a plastic bag.

With its easy sowing method using seed tape and its renowned quality of foliage, romaine lettuce is a must-have in the vegetable garden. Reliable and flavorful, it offers clean and consistent harvests, perfect for fresh salads throughout the season.
