'Super Hong Vit' Oriental Vegetables – Red Daikon Radish (Raphanus sativus var. longipinnatus), offered by the seed company WH Perron

The 'Super Hong Vit' red daikon radish is an oriental variety prized for its highly decorative sprouts and microgreens , with dark green leaves and intensely dark red petioles . Their striking contrast adds a remarkable visual touch to mixed greens , salads , or when bunched . The flavor is slightly peppery , typical of radishes, with enough bite to liven up dishes without being overpowering.

Highly nutritious, this red daikon radish is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, and C , as well as essential minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, sodium, and phosphorus. Grown from sprouts or microgreens, it offers rapid growth and an excellent yield. However, this variety requires careful attention to moisture , as it can ferment or dehydrate if neglected.

Cultivation method:

Soak the 'Super Hong Vit' red daikon radish seeds for 6 to 12 hours , then drain them well. To sprout , place the seeds in a sprouting tray or suitable container, free of soil. Rinse and drain 2 to 3 times a day , ensuring consistent but not excessive moisture.

This variety tends to ferment or dry out if there is insufficient moisture. Frequent rinsing is therefore essential. For microgreens , sow the seeds after soaking on a tray, with or without substrate, then maintain consistent moisture and expose to indirect light after germination.

Harvesting and tips:

The sprouts are ready after 2 to 3 days , while the microgreens are harvested between 5 and 14 days , when the first true leaves are well formed. Cut at the base with clean scissors.

Tip: The appearance of small white rootlets at the base of the sprouts, sometimes mistaken for mold, simply indicates a lack of water. Just soak the sprouts for a few moments and drain them well.

Colorful, flavorful and highly nutritious!

With its contrasting foliage, pungent flavor, and nutritional richness, the 'Super Hong Vit' red daikon radish is an excellent choice for lovers of expressive and unique microgreens. Ideal for visually and gustatorily enhancing dishes, it brings freshness, vitality, and character to everyday meals.
