Mauve 'Braveheart'
description
Mallow 'Braveheart' (Malva sylvestris), offered by the seed company WH Perron
The 'Braveheart' mallow is a hardy and generous perennial , prized for its large, lilac flowers delicately streaked with purple , exuding a natural, rustic charm. Borne on tall stems that can reach 150 cm , the flowers bloom profusely from July to September , adding height, lightness, and color to flowerbeds. Its foliage and blooms attract pollinators and give the garden a lively and spontaneous appearance.
Particularly easy to grow, this mallow has the unique characteristic of self-seeding . Year after year, the plants often multiply, naturally establishing themselves around the parent plant. Very hardy, it thrives in a wide variety of soils, even poor, dry, or slightly alkaline ones , provided they are well-drained. It is an excellent plant for naturalistic gardens, undemanding flowerbeds, and sunny locations.

The 'Braveheart' mallow can be sown indoors or directly in the garden .
When starting indoors, sow approximately 6 weeks before planting outdoors , ideally in individual containers , as the plant does not transplant well . Maintain a temperature of 15 to 18°C to encourage rapid and even germination. Transplant into the garden in May or June , without disturbing the root ball.
Direct sowing outdoors is also possible in June , once the soil has warmed up. This mallow adapts to almost any well-drained soil , even dry or poor ones. In heavy or damp soil, improve drainage with sand or gravel. Plant preferably in full sun , where flowering will be more abundant.
Maintenance and naturalization:
Mallow requires little maintenance. Avoid disturbing the roots when planting. In subsequent years, allow self-seeded plants , which often appear near the original plant, to develop. This ability to regenerate naturally makes it a hardy and very easy plant to maintain in the garden.
Natural, robust and full of charm!
With its delicate blooms, hardiness , and self-seeding ability, the 'Braveheart' mallow is perfect for gardeners who love free-spirited, flowering, and easy-care plants. Ideal for creating vibrant and evolving flowerbeds, it brings a romantic and authentic touch to the garden, year after year.
