Cultivation method:
Mesclun lettuce is often the first harvest of spring . It can be sown directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked, as it tolerates cool temperatures very well. For an even earlier harvest, it is possible to sow in a heated or unheated bed and then transplant into the garden in May. Germination is faster and more uniform when the soil temperature is between 10 and 15°C .
This crop prefers rich, well-drained soil . The seeds are sown very lightly, about 5 mm deep , and can be sown densely , as harvesting takes place at the young leaf stage. Full sun combined with consistent moisture promotes tender and flavorful foliage. Adding compost or well-rotted manure , along with mulch , helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
