Catnip
description
Catnip (Avena sativa), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds
Catnip produces tender, juicy young shoots that cats love to nibble on for their freshness and light texture. This annual variety, easy to grow both in pots and in the ground, quickly develops soft green filaments that provide a natural and appealing treat for feline companions. Its rapid growth and simple cultivation make it an ideal addition to both indoor and outdoor spaces.
Height: 28 to 33 cm
Spacing: 35 to 45 cm
Sowing: Indoor or direct sowing
Exposure: Sun, Partial Sun / Partial Shade, Light Shade
Quantity per packet: Untreated, non-GMO seeds
Cultivation method:
For best results, start catnip in pots placed in full sun outdoors rather than on a windowsill, which prevents the potting mix from drying out too quickly. Scatter the seeds on the surface of the soil and cover with a thin layer of sifted potting mix. Keep the substrate moist by misting regularly until germination, then water from below whenever possible to avoid flattening the seedlings.
Sow directly in the garden from mid-May to the end of May in average soil and a sunny location. Harvest or let your animals enjoy the young shoots as soon as they reach a few centimeters; regrowth is rapid as long as the soil remains slightly moist.
