The cayenne pepper is a highly productive classic, yielding long, slender fruits 4 to 6 inches in diameter that ripen from green to red. Cultivation method:
Sow indoors 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost, lightly covering the seeds in warm potting soil. Maintain a temperature of 24 to 28°C for optimal germination. Transplant when the seedlings have several true leaves and provide bright light.
Transplant outdoors after all risk of frost has passed, spacing the plants 30 to 35 cm apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly and mulch to retain moisture. The fruit can be harvested green or red, approximately 80 days after transplanting.
