Rapini 'Broccoli Rabe Quarantina' (Brassica rapa), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Rapini 'Quarantina' is an ultra-early Italian heirloom variety, native to Puglia. This versatile plant produces tender young leaves and flowering shoots with small florets similar to broccoli. Tasty and nutritious, it offers a robust, slightly bitter flavor, ideal for traditional Italian dishes. Regular harvesting of leaves and flower buds extends the production period to 2 to 4 weeks.

Days to maturity : 40 days
Height : 14 to 16 inches
Spacing : 12 to 14 inches
Sowing : Direct sowing
Exposure : Full sun
Quantity per pack : Untreated, non-GMO seeds

Cultivation method:

Sow directly into well-drained soil in early spring for an early harvest, or in late summer for a fall harvest. Plant seeds 1/4" (6 mm) deep and space them 1" (2.5 cm) apart in rows 12" (30 cm) apart. Once established, thin them to 12 to 14 inches apart to allow them to grow well.

Maintain consistent moisture and fertilize with a balanced fertilizer (20-20-20) to support rapid, vigorous growth. Watch for warm temperatures, which accelerate flowering and affect shoot quality.

An early and versatile choice!

Rapini 'Quarantina' is perfect for gardeners looking for a variety that is quick to grow and full of flavor. Its young leaves and shoots are delicious sautéed, added to pasta or as a side dish. A must-have in vegetable gardens for quick and abundant harvests!
