Rapini 'Broccoli Rabe Sessantina' (60 days)
description
Rapini 'Broccoli Rabe Sessantina' (Brassica rapa), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds
Rapini Sessantina is a heritage variety from Puglia, producing tender young leaves and small, thick flower buds reminiscent of miniature broccoli florets. Its robust, slightly bitter flavor is highly prized in Italian cuisine, and both the leaves and buds are harvested together for a rich, authentic taste. With successive pickings, the harvest can extend over 2 to 4 weeks for continuous production.
Height: 30 to 40 cm
Spacing: 15 to 20 cm
Sowing: Direct or indoor sowing
Exposure: Full sun or partial sun / Partial shade
Quantity per packet: 1,500 to 2,000 seeds, untreated, non-GMO
Cultivation method:
Sow directly outdoors in spring or late summer, at a shallow depth, in fertile, well-drained soil. Maintain consistent moisture to encourage rapid, tender growth. For an early start, sow indoors and then transplant when the seedlings are strong.
Space plants 15 to 20 cm apart to allow room for leaf and flower shoot development. Harvest young stems and buds before the flowers fully open to obtain a tender texture and optimal flavor.
