The Marmande tomato, a renowned heirloom variety, produces beautiful, juicy, and aromatic red fruits weighing 7 to 8 ounces, with firm, flavorful flesh. Its vigorous growth habit and consistent yield make it a favorite among gardeners worldwide. An indeterminate variety, it offers a reliable harvest of meaty fruits perfect for salads, sandwiches, and fresh dishes.
Height: 45 to 70 cm
Spacing: 35 to 45 cm
Sowing: Indoor sowing
Exposure: Full sun
Growth type: Indeterminate
Quantity per packet: 200 to 250 seeds, untreated, non-GMO
Cultivation method:
Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, lightly covering the seeds in warm, well-draining potting soil. Maintain a temperature of 22 to 24°C for germination in 5 to 10 days and provide bright light to prevent leggy growth. Transplant into individual pots when the first true leaves appear.
Transplant into the garden after all risk of frost has passed, spacing the plants 35 to 45 cm apart in rich, slightly moist soil. Provide sturdy support, as the indeterminate growth will produce successive clusters of fruit throughout the summer. Water regularly at the base and mulch to retain moisture and encourage continuous production.
The Marmande is distinguished by its mild flavor, generous texture and reliability, which explains its immense popularity with amateur gardeners as well as market gardeners.
