'Principe Borghese' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

The Principe Borghese tomato is a 19th-century Italian heirloom variety, renowned for its generous clusters of small, red fruits weighing 1 to 2 ounces with dense, very sweet flesh. Low in seeds and rich in flavor, these tomatoes are perfect eaten fresh, roasted, or dried. An indeterminate variety, it produces abundantly throughout the season.

Height: 90 to 120 cm
Spacing: 35 to 45 cm
Sowing: Indoor sowing
Exposure: Full sun
Growth type: Indeterminate
Quantity per packet: 200 to 250 seeds, untreated, non-GMO

Cultivation method:

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost in warm, light potting soil. Cover the seeds lightly and maintain a temperature of 22 to 24°C for germination in 5 to 10 days. Place the seedlings in bright light and transplant when the first true leaves appear.

Transplant into the garden once the risk of frost has passed, spacing the plants 35 to 45 cm apart in rich, loose, and well-amended soil. Provide sturdy support, as this variety is vigorous and produces for a long time. Water regularly at the base of the plants and mulch to retain moisture.

The Principe Borghese is renowned for its excellent drying potential and remarkable sweet flavor, ideal for sauces, antipasti and preserving.
