Zucchini 'Nero di Milano' (Cucurbita pepo), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Zucchini 'Nero di Milano' is a rare Italian heirloom variety, prized for its glossy, dark green fruit and creamy white flesh with a mild, flavorful taste. This hardy, open-growing plant makes harvesting the fruit easy, and it is perfect when it is 6 to 8 inches long. Ideal for vegetable gardens, it combines excellent productivity with exceptional culinary quality.

Days to maturity: 50 to 55 days
Fruit size: 6 to 8 inches
Height: 18 to 24 inches
Spacing: 36 to 48 inches
Sowing: Indoor/direct
Exposure: Full sun

Cultivation method:

'Nero di Milano' zucchini thrive in full sun and rich, deep, well-drained soil with an optimum pH of 5.5 to 6.5. Enrich the soil with compost before planting to ensure vigorous growth.

Sow directly outdoors from late May to mid-June, placing seeds 1" (2.5 cm) deep in mounds 8' (2.4 m) apart. Plant 4-6 seeds per mound, then reduce to 3 plants per mound after germination. For an early harvest, start indoors about 3 weeks before the last expected frost date.

Be sure to water regularly and protect young plants from pests. Harvest fruits between 6 and 8 inches long for optimal taste and perfect texture.

A rare Italian heirloom variety, 'Nero di Milano' zucchini is a true gem for gardeners and culinary enthusiasts alike!
