Organic 'Crookneck' Yellow Zucchini (Cucurbita pepo 'Crookneck') is an organic summer squash with a bushy habit, known for its butter-yellow fruits with a narrow, distinctly curved neck. The skin, initially tender and relatively smooth, becomes darker and bumpy as the fruit grows. Harvested young, around 10 to 15 cm, the fruits have fine, tender, sweet, and slightly nutty cream-colored flesh. They can be enjoyed raw in ribbons, sautéed, grilled, baked, added to soups, or made into fritters. Frequent harvesting encourages production.

Sow directly after the last frost when the soil is well warmed, or start plants indoors approximately three to four weeks before transplanting them into individual containers. Sow 2–3 cm deep and space plants about 90 to 120 cm apart depending on vigor and cultivation method. Choose full sun and deep, fertile, compost-rich, well-drained soil. Avoid disturbing the roots when transplanting. Separate male and female flowers on the same plant require pollinating insects to produce regular fruits.

Water deeply at the base when the top few centimeters of soil begin to dry, then mulch after the soil warms up to maintain consistent moisture. Keep the foliage as dry as possible and inspect the undersides of leaves to detect pests or diseases early. Harvesting generally begins around 50 to 58 days after sowing, depending on conditions. Cut young fruits with a clean knife without pulling on the plant and harvest every two to three days. Discard any bitter, moldy, slimy, deeply damaged, or abnormally odorous squash.
