Beetroot 'Golden' – Sweet golden roots and tender foliage
A touch of gold always brightens up the plate! 'Golden' beetroot ( Beta vulgaris ), offered by the OSC seed company, offers a bright color and a unique taste.
With this heritage variety, discover round, bright yellow roots and a mild, sweet flavor. Its bright green foliage with golden stems is also edible and subtly recalls the taste of spinach. Unlike red beets, it does not stain other foods, making your fresh or cooked dishes even more appetizing. Appreciated by chefs since the 1940s, the 'Golden' beet is ideal for elegant recipes, although its color fades slightly after cooking.
Spreading: Final spacing of 7 to 10 cm after thinning
Plant height: 30 to 45 cm (foliage)
Quantity per pack: Approximately 200 seeds
Companion plants: Carrots, lettuce, onions
Enemy plants: Spinach, potatoes
Cultivation method:
Sow seeds 1.2 cm deep, 2.5 cm apart, in rows 30–45 cm apart. Sow every two weeks once soil temperatures reach 7°C, until mid-July. Thin seedlings to 7–10 cm to allow good root formation. Thinned seedlings can be eaten as a green vegetable. Water spacing is limited to prevent excessive foliage growth at the expense of roots. Germination takes 8–10 days.
Combining colour, flavour and practicality, the 'Golden' beetroot is perfect for gardeners wishing to add a touch of originality and sweetness to their vegetable garden.
