Acer palmatum dissectum 'Red Dragon', known as the 'Red Dragon' lace-leaf Japanese maple, is a compact, weeping variety prized for its deeply cut, reddish-purple foliage, which retains its color better in summer than other purple cultivars. Its elegant, sprawling dome, formed by branches arching towards the ground, brings structure and movement to Asian-inspired gardens, rockeries, watersides, or container arrangements. The foliage, vivid red in spring, remains an intense purple throughout the summer, then transforms into a flamboyant crimson in autumn, offering an exceptional seasonal palette. Slow-growing, 'Red Dragon' reaches approximately 1.5 to 2 m in height and 2 to 2.5 m in width, and prefers cool, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, sheltered from scorching sun in partial shade.
