Onion 'Ailsa Craig' (Allium cepa), offered by Semences OSC.
This Spanish onion impresses with its spectacular size, reaching up to 2.27 kg and 20 cm in diameter. Its soft and sweet flesh makes it perfect for fresh use, although it is less suitable for prolonged storage. Introduced from Scotland in 1887, it is ideal for shorter growing seasons and local competition enthusiasts. Long Day variety.

Seeds can be started indoors in February in a soilless medium and transplanted in spring. Sow directly outdoors from mid-April, 8-15mm deep and 15mm apart, in rows 30cm apart. Thin to 12.5cm to allow bulbs to fully develop. Onions prefer a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Bend flower stalks to focus energy on bulb formation. Germination takes 6-12 days.
