Organic 'Bloomsdale' Spinach
Organic 'Bloomsdale' spinach (Spinacia oleracea), offered by the seed company Aimers
This heirloom spinach variety develops thick, glossy, dark green, deeply crinkled leaves resembling Savoy cheese. The leaves are tender and flavorful, excellent raw in salads or lightly cooked, while retaining a good texture. Tolerant of both cold and moderate heat, it bolts slowly, allowing for extended harvests in spring and autumn.

Planting and maintenance:
Sow as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, at a depth of about 12 mm, in rows spaced 30 to 45 cm apart, then repeat the sowings every two weeks until the end of spring. Thin the seedlings to about 5 to 7.5 cm apart to encourage abundant foliage. Maintain consistent moisture and enrich the soil with compost once the seedlings are well established. Repeat the sowings from mid to late summer for an autumn harvest.
