Organic 'Tundra' F1 spinach (Spinacia oleracea), offered by the seed company WH Perron

'Tundra' F1 spinach is a premium annual variety, prized for its tender, succulent, and nutritious baby leaves . It produces attractive, deep, dark green , semi-blistered oval leaves on an upright plant with a long stem that facilitates clean and efficient harvesting. Highly productive and disease-resistant , 'Tundra' offers abundant and consistent harvests, ideal for gardeners seeking a reliable spinach with a mild and fresh flavor.

Adapted to spring and autumn cultivation, this spinach thrives in cool weather and allows for staggered sowings to extend harvests. Its rapid and uniform growth makes it an excellent choice for both garden cultivation and repeated harvests of baby spinach.

Farming method

Sow directly in the garden from 4 weeks before to 3 weeks after the last frost , as spinach clearly prefers cool conditions. A second sowing in mid-August is also recommended for an autumn crop. Sow at a depth of approximately 1 cm , in rows spaced 60 cm apart, in very fertile, well-drained soil rich in organic matter , particularly nitrogen. Maintain consistent moisture to ensure rapid germination and steady growth.

Growing tips

Spinach tends to bolt (go to seed) quickly when the days become long and hot; therefore, choose cooler periods and locations that are slightly sheltered from excessive heat. Well-prepared and enriched soil promotes larger, more tender, and flavorful leaves, while also supporting a bountiful harvest.

Harvest

Harvest the leaves at the desired stage, young for a very tender texture or more developed for a variety of culinary uses. Productive, healthy, and easy to grow , 'Tundra' F1 spinach is an excellent choice for quick and nutritious harvests, from early spring through to fresh autumn crops.
