Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard: Exceptional Productivity and Resilience

Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard (Beta vulgaris subsp. cicla), offered by OSC Seeds

Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard is a heritage variety introduced in 1924, known for its massive, dark green leaves with white veins. Thick and slightly crinkled, these flavorful leaves are perfect for continuous harvests all summer. Heat-tolerant, this variety thrives even in high temperatures, providing an abundant yield.

Spread: Final spacing of 10 cm after thinning
Plant height: 60 to 80 cm
Packet size: Approximately 175 seeds
Companion plants: Lettuce, carrots, onions
Incompatible plants: Spinach, potatoes

How to Grow:

Sow seeds 1–2 cm deep and 2.5 cm apart in rows spaced 45 cm apart from mid-spring. Continue sowing every two weeks until early summer for a continuous harvest. Gradually thin plants to 10 cm apart, enjoying the tender greens. Harvest outer leaves by cutting at the base, encouraging new growth from the center. Germination occurs in about 10 days.

Fordhook Giant Swiss Chard is perfect for gardeners seeking a reliable, flavorful, and resilient variety, ideal for extending the harvest season while adding an aesthetic touch to the garden.
