Watering

Water regularly but sparingly, especially during summer heatwaves, flowering and fruit set. Check hanging baskets more often, as they dry out quickly, but empty any saucers containing standing water. Direct water towards the soil early in the morning to keep foliage and fruit drier. Allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings without letting the root ball dry out completely.

In pots, provide more root protection: place the container in a cold garage, temporarily bury it, or transplant the plant to the garden. Water very lightly during dormancy, only to prevent complete drying out. The following spring, gradually re-acclimate the plant to light and outdoor temperatures. Regularly monitor drainage, humidity, and air circulation around the plant. Pick ripe fruits without letting them deteriorate on the plant.
