Hot pepper 'Sugar Rush Peach' (Capsicum baccatum) , Offered by Les Gardiens - Ferme Alternative

Sugar Rush Peach is an exceptionally fruity and sweet pepper, combining moderate heat with tropical aromas . Like other Aji varieties, it offers a unique flavor with a subtle sour and sweet touch. Its spiciness, around 50,000 SHU , ranks it among the medium-hot peppers, perfect for a wide variety of culinary uses.

This variety is very prolific and requires a long growing season to reach its full potential. The first flowers appear early in the season , and the fruits begin to ripen mid-season , offering a generous and continuous production.

The elongated fruits, about 10 cm (4 inches), turn from pale green to a gorgeous peach hue when ripe . Their thick, juicy flesh makes them perfect for salsas, roasting and stuffed dishes , although there are no limits to their uses in cooking .

The plants, which can reach over 1.5 metres (5 feet) in height , are vigorous and very productive , often requiring stakes to support their abundant harvest .

Plant Height: Up to 1.5 meters (5 feet)
Spread: Medium
Quantity per bag: ISOLATED - 12 seeds
Scoville (SHU): 50,000
Companion plants: Tomatoes, basil, onions
Enemy plants: Fennel, beets

Cultivation method:

Sow seeds in early March , about 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost . Germination usually takes 7 to 14 days , with an optimum temperature between 22 and 28°C . When the seedlings reach 4 to 6 true leaves , transplant them into larger pots before acclimating them to the outdoors.

Plant them in the ground or in a pot , in rich, well-drained soil , with full sun exposure . Moderate and regular watering as well as fertilization every 2 to 3 weeks will allow optimal growth and abundant production.

The tall, fruit-laden plants require staking to prevent the branches from bending under their weight. Harvesting begins mid-season , with the fruit gradually developing its characteristic peach hue and exceptionally sweet, fruity taste .

Container growing: ideal for cooler climates

Sugar Rush Peach can be grown in pots , provided you have a container of at least 10 to 15 liters , a sunny exposure of 6 to 8 hours per day and regular watering . A balanced fertilization will guarantee an abundant production even in a restricted space .

Use and special features:

Thanks to its sweet and fruity taste , this pepper is perfect for spicy sauces, chutneys, homemade salsas and exotic dishes . It is also excellent in jam, fermented sauce or simply roasted to reveal all its aromatic richness.
