'Golden Acre' cabbage forms compact, tightly packed plants , characterized by a round, grey-green head , sometimes with a slight reddish tinge on the outer leaves. The heads weigh on average 1.5 to 2.3 kg , with a fine, crisp texture and tender flesh . The short stems and few clasping leaves maintain a tidy shape, ideal for small spaces.
This heritage variety is prized for its naturally sweet and slightly spicy flavor , which develops subtle buttery notes after cooking . Early and consistent, it is best suited for fresh consumption , as its storage capacity is limited compared to later-maturing cabbages. It is particularly well-suited to early to mid-season harvests.

Farming method
Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for up to 12 hours to promote even germination. Start seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before planting out , or sow directly outdoors when the soil temperature exceeds 23°C (73°F) . Sow at a depth of 1.2 cm (½ inch), spacing plants 25 to 45 cm (10 to 18 inches) apart depending on the desired size , with rows 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart, in rich, moist, well-drained soil .
Cabbage prefers full sun (level 3) and consistent watering (level 3) . Consistent moisture promotes the formation of tender, well-shaped heads.
Harvesting and preservation
Harvest when the outer leaves begin to open slightly and the head is firm to the touch. Although 'Golden Acre' cabbage can be stored briefly at 0°C with 95% humidity , it is best enjoyed soon after harvesting to fully appreciate its texture and flavor.
