Organic 'Red Acre' Cabbage
Organic 'Red Acre' cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata) from the seed company Gaia, a compact and well-stored heritage variety with a red-violet heart
'Red Acre' cabbage forms robust, compact plants , producing beautiful, dense, and uniform red-purple spherical heads that take up less space than traditional green cabbages. The heads typically weigh 0.9 to 1.8 kg and are 15 to 18 cm in diameter , with a firm, crisp texture . The tightly packed foliage effectively protects the head, which retains its shape without splitting as it grows.
An open-pollinated heritage variety, 'Red Acre' is renowned for its excellent storage qualities and resistance to yellowing . Versatile in the kitchen, it is delicious raw or cooked , exceptionally good grated in coleslaw , and particularly prized for fermentation and sauerkraut thanks to its texture and rich color.

Sow at a depth of 1.2 cm (½ inch ), spacing plants 25 to 45 cm (10 to 18 inches) apart depending on the desired size, with rows 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36 inches) apart, in rich, moist, well-drained soil .
Cabbage prefers full sun (level 3) and consistent watering (level 3) . Consistent moisture promotes firm, well-colored heads.
