The 'Open OPhelia' eggplant is a heritage variety stabilized by Telsing Andrews . It is distinguished by its small, oval, deep purple fruits, growing in clusters on a compact plant. Very productive and fast maturing , it is ideal for gardeners looking for an easy-to-grow eggplant, whether in the ground or in pots.

Eggplant is rich in antioxidants , including nasunin, a compound that protects cells from oxidative stress. Its tender, slightly sweet flesh is perfect for grilling, curries or stews.

Cultivation method

Sow indoors 8 to 12 weeks before the last frost, in a warm substrate ( 23-30°C ). Transplant outdoors when night temperatures exceed 10°C and the plants reach 15-20 cm . Prefer full sun exposure , rich, well-drained soil, and regular watering without excess. To promote good growth , staking is recommended.

Harvesting and conservation

Eggplants should be harvested when they are shiny and firm . A dull skin or a visible fingerprint indicates overripeness .

They can be stored at 10-12°C with 90% humidity for up to a week .
