Farming method

Soak the seeds for up to 24 hours in lukewarm water and lightly scarify them to improve germination. Sow indoors 3 to 4 weeks before the last frost or immediately after the soil temperature reaches 25°C (77°F) . Sow the seeds 2.5 cm (1 inch) deep. Transplant outdoors in full sun (level 3) with moderate watering (level 2). Space plants 38 to 45 cm (15 to 18 inches) apart, with 60 to 90 cm ( 24 to 36 inches) between rows. Germination takes 7 to 10 days at 27 to 35°C (81 to 95°F) .

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest the fruit when young (approximately 2 inches), when it is at its most tender. At full maturity, the skin hardens and the color of the spot on the ground turns cream, yellow, or orange. Cut, leaving 5 cm of stem to prevent rot. Ripen in a warm, dry place. Store at 10–12°C (50–54°F) , with 55–75% humidity and good ventilation.
