Cultivation method:
To promote rapid germination , soak seeds in warm water for 12 hours before sowing. Sow directly into the ground in late May , after all risk of frost. Plant 1/2" (1.5 cm) deep , spacing plants 16-20" (40-50 cm) apart and rows 12" (30 cm) apart . Germination takes about 10-14 days at an optimum temperature of 73°F (23°C) . This sunflower requires full sun and well-drained soil , as well as good watering to support its spectacular growth.
Harvest and uses:
Harvest when the flower heads are completely dry on their stems . To prevent birds from eating the seeds before you, cover the head with a brown paper bag while drying. The seeds of 'Mammoth Grey Stripe' are edible , perfect for roasting and salting as a snack, adding to salads or pressing for a tasty oil .
