Organic 'Black and Brown Boar' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, a dark-striped variety bursting with flavor, vigorous and ultra-productive

The 'Black and Brown Boar' tomato, selected by Brad Gates ( Wild Boar Farms ), is one of the most expressive striped varieties in the modern heirloom line. A close relative of 'Black Zebra', but larger, more lobed, and even more aromatic , it produces 3- to 4-inch round to slightly ribbed fruits with a mahogany-brown skin streaked with dark green . Its flesh is dense, juicy, and rich in pigments, with a deep, earthy, dark flavor typical of large black tomatoes, but with an added vibrancy inherited from Green Zebra .

Mid-early to early maturing, extremely vigorous, and with an aggressive growing habit, this indeterminate variety offers abundant, regular, and prolonged harvests. Its fruits hold their shape well, resist cracking, and shine both in salads and fresh dishes. It's a must-have variety for those seeking complexity, beauty, and horticultural performance .

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting . Bury the seeds 3–6 mm deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29 °C for germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during hardening off to encourage growth.

Transplant when the risk of frost has passed. Space plants 60 to 90 cm apart, with 120 to 180 cm between rows. Provide full sun and regular watering (level 3). Install sturdy supports , as this variety is particularly vigorous and productive.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruit displays its dark mahogany color streaked with green and becomes slightly soft. To advance the harvest, pick at the first blush , then allow to ripen off the vine at 22°C or above . Store between 12–21°C , with 95% relative humidity , to maintain their firmness.

Usage ideas

• Perfect in colorful salads , where its dark green stripes create a striking contrast
• Delicious sliced , with a deep, dark flavor typical of black tomatoes
• Ideal for fresh dishes : bruschetta, homemade salsa, tomato carpaccio
• Excellent when cooked gently , concentrating its complex earthy notes

The 'Black and Brown Boar' tomato is a work of art in the art of taste: graphic, dark, refined, and incredibly generous. It embodies the Wild Boar Farms signature, wild beauty and intense flavor, for a vegetable garden that is as spectacular as it is delicious.
