Organic 'Orange Green Zebra' tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) from the seed company Gaia, an amber and green zebra-striped tomato, vibrant, juicy and extraordinarily tasty

The 'Orange Green Zebra' tomato is a splendid heirloom variety inspired by the famous Green Zebra, but with its own unique flavor and appearance. Indeterminate and highly prolific, it produces charming, medium-sized tomatoes with a golden amber skin streaked with green , creating a vibrant and luminous contrast. Its flavor, often considered superior to that of the classic Green Zebra , is juicy, balanced, lively, and slightly fruity, making it ideal for fresh salads, colorful salsas, or summer dishes where a decorative and aromatic tomato is desired.

This variety is also distinguished by its high productivity, offering an abundance of fruit throughout the season. It is among the heirloom tomatoes favored by gardeners who appreciate striped and tangy varieties but seek a more rounded sweetness and added aromatic complexity.

Farming method

Sow indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. Sow seeds 3–6 mm (1/8–1/4") deep in a light potting mix and maintain a temperature of 23–29°C to ensure germination in 5 to 10 days . Reduce watering and nitrogen during hardening off to strengthen the seedlings.

Transplant when frost is no longer a threat. Plant them 60 to 90 cm (24 to 36") apart, with 120 to 180 cm (4 to 6') between rows. Give them full sun (level 3) , regular watering (watering level 3) , and install sturdy staking , which is necessary to support their indeterminate growth.

Harvesting and preservation

Harvest when the fruits have developed their beautiful amber color streaked with green . To speed up the harvest, pick the tomatoes that have shown their first color , then let them ripen off the vine at 22°C or higher . Store them between 12 and 21°C , with 95% relative humidity, to preserve their juicy texture and vibrant flavor.

Usage ideas

• Perfect in colorful salads , where its green stripes provide contrast
• Delicious in live salsas , slightly tangy and very aromatic
• Looks stunning on plates of heirloom tomatoes , thanks to its zebra pattern
