Plant seeds 1.5 cm (1/2") deep , spacing plants 30 cm (12") apart and rows 60 cm (24") apart. Germination occurs in 10 to 14 days at an optimum temperature of 23 °C (73 °F) . These sunflowers require full sun and good watering to ensure abundant flowering.

Harvest the seeds once the flower heads are completely dry on their stems . To prevent birds and squirrels from nibbling on them before you do, place a brown paper bag over the drying flowers .
