Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Masja’ is a compact, classic shrub hydrangea, known for its large, very dense spherical flower heads and its naturally low, spreading habit. This old variety is distinguished by spectacular flowering when the flower buds are well preserved, with flowers that can change from deep pink to blue depending on the soil's acidity. Its growth is wider than it is tall, making it an excellent choice for sheltered beds, neat borders, and container cultivation. The dark green, broad, and textured deciduous foliage strongly highlights the blooms. ‘Masja’ is not a reblooming variety and flowers mainly on old wood, which can make flowering more variable depending on conditions.
