‘Pinky Winky’ Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’). Hydrangea paniculata ‘Pinky Winky’® is an iconic shrub hydrangea, known for its highly contrasting bicolor blooms and vigorous, perfectly structured habit. This variety is distinguished by its long, upright conical panicles, with flowers that open creamy white at the base while the tips quickly turn deep pink to rosy red, creating a spectacular and long-lasting two-tone effect. Its overall habit is upright, dense, and noticeably taller than wide, supported by strong stems that hold the inflorescences perfectly straight.
To plant ‘Pinky Winky’ panicle hydrangea, choose a suitable exposure: sun to partial shade. The recommended soil is ordinary to rich, well-drained. Maintain consistent moisture around the roots, as soil that dries out suddenly can cause the foliage to wilt. Avoid repeated pruning to artificially maintain a small silhouette; instead, choose a space suitable for the variety’s development. Water the root ball before planting it and ensure that water can drain after planting. During establishment, check the moisture by hand before watering again.
Allow a width of 1.2–1.5 m (4–5 ft) to plan this plant's space in the garden. The indicated height of 1.8–2.4 m (6–8 ft) helps in choosing its position relative to neighboring plants. Maintain access to the base for weeding, checking moisture, and removing damaged parts. Combine this variety with plants whose light and water requirements are compatible. If you are considering a container, first check that its volume and drainage are suitable for root development. Roots in pots are more exposed to cold than those planted in the ground.
