Lonicera caerulea 'Blizzard'
Lonicera caerulea 'Blizzard', known as 'Blizzard' haskap, is a very productive deciduous fruit shrub renowned for the impressive size of its berries and its great hardiness. This vigorous variety forms a dense, rounded bush that fits perfectly into fruit gardens and Nordic vegetable gardens. In spring, small creamy-white flowers appear very early in the season and are followed by large, elongated dark blue berries covered with a light waxy bloom. The fruits are particularly large, fleshy and flavorful, offering a sweet and slightly tart taste reminiscent of blueberries. They are excellent eaten fresh, frozen or made into jams and desserts. This variety belongs to the Boreal series and produces abundantly when grown with other compatible haskaps for pollination. Very hardy, it grows well in full sun in well-drained soil.
