description
Organic garlic chives (Allium tuberosum) from McKenzie Seeds, a mild perennial herb with a light garlic flavor
Organic garlic chives are a perennial herb with fine, elongated, bright green leaves , reminiscent of supple, elegant blades of grass. The leaves release a delicate garlic flavor , much milder than traditional garlic, without leaving a lingering odor on fingers or breath. The plant forms a dense, even clump, very decorative in the garden or in pots. It can be harvested leaf by leaf as needed.
Very easy to grow , garlic chives are suitable for both beginner gardeners and established vegetable gardens. Perennial and hardy , they faithfully return year after year and adapt to many conditions, even poor soils. They thrive in the garden as well as in containers and require little maintenance. Appreciated by pollinators , they also help to repel certain pests in the vegetable garden.

Farming method
Garlic chives can be sown directly in the garden once the soil has warmed up, or started indoors for faster establishment. Sow shallowly, cover lightly, and keep the soil moist until germination. They prefer a sunny location but tolerate many other conditions.
Light, regular watering is sufficient once the plant is established. Thin out the seedlings to give them space and encourage a nice, bushy shape. This hardy grass requires little attention and will become a permanent fixture in the garden.
Harvesting and preservation
The leaves can be harvested as needed , by cutting them near the base to encourage regrowth. Regular harvesting keeps the foliage tender and flavorful.
To preserve the flavour, the leaves can be chopped and frozen , or dried quickly after harvesting.
