Organic coriander (Coriandrum sativum) from McKenzie seed company, a fresh aromatic herb with lemony leaves and fragrant seeds

Organic coriander, also known as Chinese parsley , is an annual herb with finely cut , bright green , highly aromatic leaves. The leaves offer a fresh, slightly citrusy flavor , milder than the seeds, while the seeds develop a warm, subtly sweet aroma. The plant quickly forms a light clump before flowering fairly soon , especially in warm weather. It can be harvested young for a more delicate flavor.

Easy to grow , coriander is ideal for Asian and Latin American cuisines. It is sown directly in the ground , as it does not transplant well, and can also be grown indoors for year-round use. A favorite of pollinators , it thrives in organic vegetable gardens and herb gardens. Successive sowings allow for a longer harvest of leaves.

Farming method

Coriander is sown directly in the garden once the soil has warmed up. Choose a location in full sun or partial sun , especially during hot periods. Sow shallowly, cover lightly, and keep the soil moist until germination.

Light, regular watering helps slow flowering. To prolong the leaf harvest, sow seeds in succession and choose a slightly shaded location in summer. Growing in pots is ideal for easy control of growing conditions.

Harvesting and preservation

The leaves can be harvested as needed , preferably before flowering for optimal flavor. Regular trimming encourages the production of new leaves.

The seeds are harvested when the flowers dry out and turn brown. The leaves can be eaten fresh or frozen , while the seeds keep well in a dry place .
