Giant Daikon radish, sweet, juicy and incredibly crunchy

Winter radish “Minowase” ( Raphanus sativus ), offered by OSC Seeds

This Japanese daikon radish is impressively vigorous: it produces long, white roots, reaching up to 45 cm in length and about 6 cm in diameter, often weighing over 450 g . Despite their impressive size, the flesh remains delicate , sweet , juicy , and very crisp —an ideal radish for those who prefer a less pungent flavor. Excellent raw, grated, pickled, or added to stir-fries.

Propagation: Direct sowing
Height/Port: Root
Package size: Approximately 100 seeds
Harvest time: 60–70 days
Frost tolerance: Resistant to light frost
Companion plants: Lettuce, onions, spinach
Incompatible plants: Other closely related brassicas (sharing pests)

Planting and maintenance:
Sow in full sun in deep, loose, well-drained soil—essential for allowing the long roots to develop without becoming misshapen. Space rows 30–40 cm apart, then thin to 10–15 cm to encourage broad, uniform roots. Maintain consistent moisture to prevent bitterness. Harvest before the first hard frosts, but the plants tolerate early cold weather well.
