The Pieris japonica 'Prelude', known as Japanese Andromeda 'Prelude', is an ornamental evergreen shrub prized for its early blooming and compact habit, particularly suited for small gardens. This variety forms a dense, rounded bush with glossy dark green foliage that remains decorative all year round. In late winter and early spring, the shrub produces numerous hanging clusters of small, pale to soft pink bell-shaped flowers that brighten up beds when few other plants are yet in bloom. The new spring growth can display bronze to reddish hues before turning dark green, adding further seasonal interest. Ideal for woodland gardens and acid-loving plant beds, this shrub prefers acidic, organic-rich, and well-drained soils, as well as a semi-shaded exposure.
