Japanese Andromeda 'Scarlet O'Hara'

FamilyPinaceae

Pieris japonica 'Scarlet O'Hara', known as Japanese Andromeda 'Scarlet O'Hara', is an ornamental evergreen shrub highly valued for its spectacular new shoots and elegant spring flowering. This variety forms a dense, rounded bush that adds structure and color to woodland gardens and acid-loving plant beds. In spring, the shrub produces long, drooping clusters of small, delicate pinkish-white, bell-shaped flowers. Shortly after flowering, vibrant scarlet red new shoots appear, creating a striking contrast with the mature dark green foliage. This vivid coloration can persist for several weeks before turning green. Decorative almost all year round, this shrub prefers acidic soils, rich in organic matter and well-drained, as well as a semi-shady exposure protected from scorching sun.
