A Native North American Beauty

Plains Coreopsis (Coreopsis tinctoria), offered by OSC Seeds

Native to the central plains of North America and naturalized in the east, this bushy, multi-branched plant produces an abundance of bright yellow flowers with brown accents. Ideal for wildflower mixes or adding quick first-year color, Plains Coreopsis is an annual or short-lived perennial. Its blooms attract pollinators, and its seeds are a favorite of small birds. Plants grow 60 cm or taller and thrive in full sun, tolerating partial shade.

How to Grow:
Start seeds indoors in early spring using a soilless mix for mid-summer blooms. Germinate at 24 °C for 5–10 days. Grow under lights at a slightly cooler temperature, harden off, and transplant outdoors in a sunny spot. Direct sow seeds mid-May to early June, keeping the soil moist until germination. Once established, thin plants to 30 cm apart in the garden. Plains Coreopsis often self-seeds, ensuring its presence year after year.

With its vivid blooms and appeal to wildlife, it’s a must-have for natural gardens and borders.

The availability of our seeds varies depending on seasonal availability, production schedules and supplier inventory. Certain varieties may only be offered for a limited time based on their natural growth cycle, sowing period or available stock.
