Prunus domestica 'Early Golden' is a hardy hybrid plum tree native to Fonthill, Ontario, likely a cross between a Japanese plum and a myrobalan. It produces medium-sized, round plums with golden-yellow skin with a slight pink blush, and juicy, sweet, yellow flesh that is not adherent to the pit. Harvested as early as July, these fruits are ideal for fresh eating, jams, pies, and canning. The tree, vigorous and upright, produces abundant spring blooms but is not self-fertile; it requires another compatible Japanese plum tree, such as 'Shiro' or 'Burbank', for effective pollination. 'Early Golden' is prized for its earliness, productivity, and ability to adapt to cool climates, making it an excellent choice for home orchards and gardeners looking for a tasty and hardy plum variety.
