Organic Evan’s Purple Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a vigorous, productive indeterminate annual variety valued for its distinctive reddish-purple fruits. Its abundant harvests bring beautiful ornamental value to vegetable beds while offering a gourmet tomato highly appreciated for fresh eating. Its juicy flesh develops a rich, mild, balanced, and complex flavor reminiscent of the finest heirloom-style tomatoes. It is excellent in salads, as a fresh garden snack, on vegetable platters, as an appetizer, or as a colorful garnish. The plant reaches approximately 1.8 to 2.1 m (6 to 7 ft) and usually produces around 70 days after transplanting.

Organic Evan’s Purple Tomato should be sown indoors from March to April, about 0.5 cm (1/4 in) deep, at a steady temperature of 21 to 27°C (70 to 81°F). Germination usually takes 7 to 14 days when seedlings receive proper warmth and light. After the last frosts, hardened-off plants can be transplanted into full sun, in fertile, organic-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. It also grows very well in a large, deep container. A sturdy stake is recommended to support fruit-laden stems, along with regular watering, organic mulch, and balanced fertilization throughout the season.

In the edible garden, Organic Evan’s Purple Tomato fits perfectly into family vegetable gardens, gourmet gardens, and edible landscapes where productivity, flavor, and originality are desired. Its distinctive color adds strong visual interest among other tomato varieties, while its generous harvests provide fresh fruit throughout summer. Basil, chives, and parsley are good companion plants, while rotation with other nightshades helps reduce certain crop health issues. Its yellow flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, encouraging good fruit set and beneficial biodiversity in the vegetable garden.
