Seeds can be started indoors in a soilless medium in February and transplanted in spring. Sow directly from mid-April, 8-15mm deep with 15mm spacing between seeds. Thin to 5cm for cooking onions or 7.5cm for Spanish sweet bulbs. Onions prefer a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Lay the flower stalks down to redirect energy into the bulb. One packet will sow about 6m of row. Germination takes place in 1-2 weeks.
