Discover the plant
‘Polar Hunter’ Daffodil (Narcissus) bears up to four nodding flowers per stem, with greenish-yellow petals that turn greenish-white and a small greenish-yellow cup, from early to mid-spring. The package contains 5 top-size bulbs. The stems reach about 30 cm (12 in), a practical height for rock gardens, borders, containers, and naturalized plantings. Hardy in Zone 3, this daffodil returns for several years when the soil remains fertile, well-drained, and slightly moist during its growth. Group planting enhances the color effect and allows you to appreciate the unique shape of ‘Polar Hunter’ near a path or entrance.
Plant the bulbs in the fall, tip up, 10 cm (4 in) deep and 8 cm (3 in) apart. Choose full sun or light partial shade, then water deeply after planting. In spring, maintain regular moisture when rainfall is insufficient, without allowing water to stagnate. A thin layer of mature compost supports growth; avoid fertilizers rich in nitrogen. In containers, use a deep pot with clear drainage holes and protect it from repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
After flowering, remove spent flowers if you do not want seed formation, but allow all leaves to yellow completely. They replenish the reserves necessary for the next flowering. Reduce watering during summer dormancy and mark the location to avoid disturbing the bulbs. Divide crowded clumps after the foliage has dried, then quickly replant firm bulbs. All parts of the daffodil are toxic if ingested; keep bulbs out of reach of children and animals and wear gloves if your skin reacts to the sap.
