‘Mitchurinetz’ Grape (Vitis ‘Mitchurinetz’). The Vitis ‘Mitchurinetz’, commonly known as ‘Mitchurinetz’ grape, is an extremely hardy hybrid grape variety developed for very cold climates. Its vigorous climbing habit, with twining tendrils, allows for easy training on a trellis, pergola, or espalier system in the garden or vineyard. It produces medium-sized clusters of dark blue to purplish-black grapes with firm skin and juicy flesh, offering a sweet and slightly tart flavor suitable for processing into juice, jellies, or light red wines. Maturity typically occurs in late summer.

To plant ‘Mitchurinetz’ grape, choose a suitable exposure: full sun. The recommended soil is well-drained, slightly fertile. Install the support before the stems become long and difficult to guide. Pruning for fruit production depends on the chosen training method. Clear the grape clusters without excessively removing foliage, which feeds the plant during their development. Water the root ball before planting and ensure water can drain after planting. During establishment, check the soil moisture by hand before watering again. Spread mulch around the base, leaving the crown clear.

Allow a width of 3 m (10 ft) to plan for this plant in the garden. The indicated height of 6 m (20 ft) helps choose its position relative to neighboring plants. Maintain access to the base for weeding, checking moisture, and removing damaged parts. Pair this variety with plants that have compatible light and water needs.
