'Sabrevois' Grape

‘Sabrevois’ Grapevine (Vitis ‘Sabrevois’). Vitis ‘Sabrevois’, commonly known as the ‘Sabrevois’ grapevine, is a very hardy hybrid grape variety developed for harsh northern climates. Its vigorous climbing habit, with twining tendrils, can be easily trained on a trellis, pergola, or espalier system. It produces compact clusters of blue-black grapes with thick skins, rich in pigments and aromas, ideal for making colorful and structured red wines. Maturity generally occurs in early autumn. Its deciduous, bright green foliage forms a dense canopy during the season and can develop autumnal hues.

To plant ‘Sabrevois’ grapevine, choose a suitable exposure: full sun. The recommended soil is: well-drained, slightly fertile. Install the support before the shoots become long and difficult to guide. Pruning for fruit production depends on the chosen training system. Clear the grape clusters without excessively removing foliage, which nourishes the plant during their development. Water the root ball before planting and ensure that water can drain after planting. During establishment, check the soil moisture by hand before watering again. Spread mulch around the base, leaving the crown clear.

Allow a width of 3 m (10 ft) to arrange the plant’s space in the garden. The indicated height of 6 m (20 ft) helps choose its position relative to neighboring plants. Maintain access to the base for weeding, checking moisture, and removing damaged parts. Associate this variety with plants whose light and water needs are compatible. If you are considering a container, first check that its volume and drainage are suitable for root development. Roots in pots are more exposed to cold than those planted in the ground.
