Cultivation method:
The organic beetroot mix is sown directly in the ground , in full sun , from May until early July for a continuous harvest throughout the summer. Sowing until mid-June is recommended for an autumn harvest. The flavor is optimal when growth is rapid and consistent .
This crop prefers light, slightly sandy soil with a pH of 6.0 or higher . It is important to prepare the soil well by removing stones and clods, then incorporate compost or well-rotted manure to promote even root development. Sow at a depth of approximately 1 cm , then thin to 8 cm apart in rows spaced 30 to 40 cm apart.
Maintaining consistent moisture is essential: prolonged periods of drought followed by heavy rain can alter the color and texture of the roots. Regular watering will produce tender, well-colored beets.
Harvest :
Beets are tender when they reach half their size , but become tougher if they grow too large. Harvest at the ideal stage to preserve texture and flavor.
The young leaves can be eaten raw in salads, while the mature leaves can be prepared like spinach.
