description
'Solyn' baby potato (Solanum tuberosum), offered by the seed company WH Perron
The 'Solyn' baby potato is an innovative variety grown from seed rather than tubers, allowing for a disease-free harvest. It produces small, round potatoes with smooth yellow skin and medium yellow flesh , highly prized for their delicate flavor. Round to oval in shape, they hold their shape beautifully when cooked , remaining firm after boiling or roasting. Their texture and flavor make them an ideal choice for salads , baked dishes, and elegant side dishes.
'Solyn' stands out for its high tolerance to late blight , a major advantage for gardeners. Grown from seed, it requires starting indoors, but in return offers uniform vigor and excellent disease resistance. This variety is perfect for curious gardeners who want to discover a modern and efficient approach to potato cultivation, while obtaining a tasty and consistent harvest.

Cultivation method:
The 'Solyn' potato is sown indoors , under lights, approximately 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost . To prevent dormancy , germinate the seeds at a temperature of 18 to 20°C for 7 to 10 days. Transplant the seedlings approximately 5 weeks after sowing , after a hardening -off period.
In the garden, plant in well-loosened, light, and deep soil . It is recommended to work the soil to a depth of about 30 cm to encourage good tuber development. Plant the seed potatoes at a depth of 10 to 15 cm , spacing them 30 to 40 cm apart, with rows spaced 60 to 70 cm apart. Position the seed potato vertically, sprout facing upwards, without breaking it.
Regular watering is necessary, especially during tuber establishment and formation. Cultivation is optimal in slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5 to 6) . Lightly hill up the soil as the plants grow to protect the tubers and improve yield.
Harvest :
Harvesting should take place when the foliage has completely yellowed , a sign that the tubers have reached maturity. It is important not to harvest too early, but also not to wait until the foliage has dried out excessively, in order to preserve the quality of the potatoes.
The bells obtained are uniform, tasty and keep well after harvesting.
Small, tasty and surprisingly efficient!
Grown from seed, resistant to blight , and with firm, flavorful yellow potatoes , the 'Solyn' potato is a modern and rewarding variety to cultivate. Ideal for gardeners looking to combine innovation, flavor, and reliability, it brings a unique and refined touch to both the vegetable garden and the plate.
