Seeds can be started indoors in a soilless medium in February for best results, or in a cold frame to advance the season. Transplant outdoors in spring. Seeds can also be sown directly from mid-April, 8-15mm deep and 15mm apart in rows 30cm apart. Thin to 12.5cm to allow bulbs to fully develop. Onions prefer a sunny location with fertile, well-drained soil. Lay flower stalks flat to direct energy into bulb development. One packet will sow about 6m of row. Germination occurs in 1-2 weeks.
