Weigela 'My Monet' (Weigela florida 'My Monet'). Weigela florida 'My Monet'® is an exceptionally compact, dwarf deciduous shrub, sought after for its pink, cream, and green variegated foliage that brightens up small spaces. This weigela forms a dense cushion, significantly wider than it is tall, perfect for borders, rockeries, flowerbeds, and container plantings. Its colorful foliage is its main ornamental appeal throughout the season, while delicate pale pink flowers appear in spring, adding a subtle and refined touch. Despite its small size, it provides excellent structure, bringing texture and contrast to both contemporary designs and natural gardens.
To plant weigela 'My Monet', choose an appropriate exposure: sun to partial shade. The recommended soil is well-drained, fresh to moderately dry. Water the root ball before planting it in the ground and ensure that water can drain away after planting. During establishment, check the moisture by hand before watering again. Spread mulch around the base, leaving the collar clear. Avoid systematic fertilizer applications without considering the soil's richness. In Quebec, choose a period when the soil is thawed and easy to work with.
Allow for a width of 1 m (3.3 ft) when planning the plant's placement in the garden. The indicated height of 60 cm (2 ft) helps choose its position relative to neighboring plants. Maintain access to the base for weeding, checking moisture, and removing damaged parts. Combine this variety with plants whose light and water needs are compatible. If considering a container, first check that its volume and drainage are suitable for root development. Roots in pots are more exposed to cold than those planted directly in the ground.
