Calla 'Picasso' (1 rhizome)

Picasso Calla Lily (Zantedeschia ‘Picasso’) is a striking rhizomatous perennial prized for its cup-shaped flowers with deep purple centres delicately framed by creamy white margins. This distinctive bicoloured pattern creates an artistic contrast that immediately draws the eye and gives the plant an exotic, sophisticated appearance. Its glossy green foliage, often marked with small pale spots, beautifully highlights the blooms. From June to August, the plant reaches approximately 45 to 60 cm in height and forms an elegant silhouette. Hardy only to Zone 10, it must be protected from frost under Quebec conditions.

Plant the rhizomes in spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed sufficiently. Choose a location in full sun or partial sun with rich, fertile, evenly moist, and perfectly drained soil. Lay the rhizomes flat, 8 to 10 cm deep, and space them 30 to 40 cm apart. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. An annual application of compost and a balanced fertilizer every two weeks support vigorous growth. Before the first frost, lift the rhizomes and store them in a cool, dry place.

‘Picasso’ calla lily is ideal for summer flower beds, borders, patios, large containers, and bouquets. For container growing, use a pot at least 30 cm in diameter with excellent drainage. Its bicoloured flowers pair beautifully with begonias, cannas, caladiums, coleus, and coral bells to create elegant tropical displays. Valued for their excellent vase life, the blooms add originality and refinement to contemporary floral arrangements. They may also attract some pollinators. However, the flowers are grown exclusively for ornamental purposes and are not intended for consumption.
