Turmeric 'White'

White Siam Tulip (Curcuma alismatifolia ‘White’) is an elegant tropical perennial distinguished by its pristine white, cone-shaped bracts that rise above long, glossy green foliage. Small, delicate pink flowers are tucked between the bracts, adding a subtle touch of colour to its refined appearance. From June through September, its long-lasting blooms bring freshness, elegance, and tropical beauty to summer landscapes. Growing 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32 in) tall, this variety creates a striking focal point in containers and garden beds. Not hardy in Canada, it should be overwintered indoors, protected from frost.
Plant the rhizome in spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed, approximately 5 cm (2 in) deep. Choose a warm location in partial sun or light shade with bright, filtered light protected from intense afternoon sun. Grow it in rich, humus-rich, light, consistently moist, and well-drained soil, spacing plants 25 to 30 cm (10 to 12 in) apart. Maintain even moisture without allowing the soil to become waterlogged, and fertilize every two weeks throughout the growing season. Gradually reduce watering as the plant enters dormancy, then lift the rhizomes before the first autumn frost.
White Siam Tulip is ideal for patios, terraces, tropical garden beds, and containers at least 30 to 35 cm (12 to 14 in) in diameter. Pair it with cannas, colocasias, caladiums, ferns, and begonias to create lush tropical displays with rich textures. Its elegant white blooms attract bees and other pollinators while also making excellent cut flowers for modern and exotic floral arrangements. This variety is grown strictly for ornamental purposes and is not intended for culinary use. When grown in containers, it can easily be moved indoors in autumn and stored in a dry, frost-free location throughout the winter.
